Whiteface Vertical Weekend

2015 US Skyrunner Series usskyrunning.com

Saturday will see glute and lung crushing ascents and quad threshold descents, both tapered by epic vistas. Sunday will provide beautiful rolling trail interspersed with two of the sharpest vertical ascents and descents that you’ll find on any trail course, anywhere. Whiteface sits on more true vertical gain than all but 14 other ski resorts in North America and more than any resort east of the Rockies. From its sharp and exposed form to an entrance lined with the rings and flags of the world telling of its place in past and current Olympic activity, Whiteface is iconic. The resort and the town of Wilmington will provide the pitch perfect venue for what should be an amazing weekend of hard efforts, epic experiences, and the wonderful community which defines the best of trail running. Red Newt Racing is stoked to have you.

Cayuga Trails 50

Welcome to the Cayuga Trails 50, presented by the Finger Lakes Running Company and Cayuga Medical Center, and host to the USATF 50 Mile Trail National Championship in 2014. Offered is a beautiful and challenging course staged in one of the finest small cities in the country. You’ll run in and out of gorges, pass numerous waterfalls, negotiate creek crossings, and climb/descend roughly 10,000 feet over variable terrain.

You’ll be provided aid stations fueled by amazing volunteers and GU averaging 4 miles apart. An awesomely functional 100% recycled and made-in-Maine event shirt from the great crew at Atayne. Pre and post-race munchies from Ithaca Milk, Ithaca Bakery, and Eddydale Farms. Post-race muscle manipulation from the sports team at Cayuga Medical Center and Dale Cooper. If you’re fast or play the day right, shoes from Scott Sports, hydration accessories from Ultimate Direction, wine from Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard, pies from Grandma Eddy at Eddydale Farms, shades from Tifosi, or a portion of the $10,000 prize purse made possible in part by the Tompkins County Tourism Program. So, whether fast or riding the cutoff at the back of the pack, you’ll have in-race opportunities to win some wicked tasty apple pie, sponsor gears, maybe even a race entry fee refund.

Additionally, we’ve been working to be one of the first official stops on the inaugural Trails-In-Motion International Film Festival World Tour which hopefully will take place on Saturday, May 31st.

Spend some time on the site, look into what the Ithaca area has to offer you over the long weekend and VisitIthaca.com, and let us know if you’ve any questions and we’re looking forward to having you.

This event made possible in part by a grant from the Tompkins County Tourism Program.

Manitou’s Revenge Ultramarathon and Relay

It is a 54 mile ultramarathon through the Catskills beginning in Windham, N.Y. on the northern Black Dome Trail and then mostly following the Long Path from Acra Point all the way to downtown Phoenicia, N.Y.

THIS IS NOT LIKE ANY OTHER ULTRA YOU’VE RUN BEFORE!

This is a grueling, gnarly, nasty course with approximately 14,000 ft. of climbing, much of it rocky and precipitous.  To be sure, there are some runnable sections, but you will more often find yourself hiking uphill or down, sometimes hand over hand.  Expect this course to take you much longer than your average 50 miler. That’s why we are allowing 24 hrs. to complete this monster. Because of its remote and difficult nature, there will of necessity be a limited number of aid stations, 8 or 9, and runners should be prepared to spend up to 3 or 4 hrs between aid stations. You will have to be reasonably self-sufficient. To make matters worse, the course gets progressively more difficult as you go along! And to top it all off, the average runner will have to tackle this hardest terrain in the dark.

So…  There must be something that makes this race worthwhile, right???

Yes, the Catskills are truly scenic and wonderful, when you can look up every now and then to sneak a peak, and this will certainly become a memorable experience for anyone who takes on the challenge.

TNF Bear Mountain 50 Miles

A hardy test for trail runners of any level, The North Face Endurance Challenge – New York winds along the western shores of the Hudson River and through the craggy foothills of the Catskill Mountains.
COURSE OVERVIEW
Runners can expect technical terrain and rocky footing that cuts to the chase, with some trails heading steeply uphill rather than zigzagging at a gentler grade. Descents end in wooded hollows before the next rapid climb exposing breathtaking views. Make no mistake; this will be a true test of off-road endurance.

Monument Valley 100

Situated within the Navajo Nation, Monument Valley took millions of years to form and that time was well spent! The amazing formations reaching 1,000 feet into the sky draw your gaze in wonderment. Vibrant colors and dramatic shadows cast along the valley floor will give you a sense of becoming “in tune” with nature, experiencing the same inclusion with the natural world that the Native Americans have practiced for generations. Running becomes less of an activity and more of an intrinsic way in which to absorb the landscape.

Join us at Ultra Adventures to share the experience in this beautiful setting as we wander and wind our way around the majestic towers and entwine Navajo culture into our event, which will leave you with a new understanding and respect for the natural environment and appreciation for the Navajo lifestyle.
