Bear Mountain Love and Hate #5 – Hills For BBQ : Sun, 11 May 2014 08:54:37

One week after the Bear Mountain 50 miles, my left ankle was still swollen. But I had work to be done for upcoming Cayuga and Manitou.
So four of us went up to the Bear Mountain ski slope to do some hill repeat. Those crazy girls were doing the 3 miles warming up trail loop and followed by hill repeat run. For me and my whimp ankles, we were just doing 3 miles on the road and hike repeat.
The best part was, we were doing barbecue after the work out, to bring back the calories. Hills and burgers were the right way to close my week.

Bear Mountain Love and Hate #4 – Hills For Breakfast : Sun, 27 Apr 2014 08:00:00

One week away from Bear Mountain 50 miles and I have been tapering my ankle from injury that I earned from Traprock 50K last week. My legs and soul became restless, and I could not resist to visit my beloved Bear Mountain. And also an excuse to try my brand new (used) MonkeyCart.
So the idea was to train my legs strength and cardio with hills repeats, but at the same time I wanted to avoid technical hill that I would not twisted my ankle much. From our previous run in Bear Mountain, Maria and I found this nice twins ski slope by the side of Silver Mine Lake. So here we were at 8am on Sunday morning, tried to closed the week in the right way.

It was early in the morning when I met Joe Delano in the city to get a ride . The ride  was probably about 2 hours from Manhattan to the race area. And on the way there, we picked up Paul at Hartford, CT. Paul, who’s originally from Ireland but flew in from Mexico where he lived at that moment. Both of them were fast runners, they were in the mission to qualify Boston marathon 2015. We got there pretty early so we had time to set up our drop bag area. The starting line was a couple of hundreds meters from the park main parking lot. Oh the porta-john location was in that main parking lot.

Lets the race begin
