In the first couple of months 2015, my toes almost got frostbite twice. So I decided that I needed to find a Gore Tex shoes. I found this Kinvara 4 GTX on one of “The Best Winter Shoes 2014” article. Although they were not a minimalist shoes, but I gave them a shot. I used them on my training race at Febapple Frozen 50K 2015 (I only did 25K). It was a frigid frozen snowy day with pack of snow on the trail, but my feet were warm and dry.
Pro : The Gore Tex upper mesh really kept my feet dry and warm, yet did not overheat my foot. The rubber was padded, yet was light, that protected the bottom of my foot of getting cold from the snow/ice underneath. Even though they were basically a road shoes, but on the ice and snowy trail, the Pro Grid worked pretty good. (I was not using my micro spikes)
Cons : Since they were a padded/thick outsole, it caused me some post race issue. But it was not the product faulty, it just not my kind of shoes. I hope Saucony would make a minimalist shoes and minimalist Gore Tex shoes in the near future.
