Minnewaska Undercliff – Fire Tower – Overcliff Loop : Mon, 26 May 2014 10:30:30

It was a long weekend and I thought I should hit another easy trail with a little scrambling. And the answer was the Gunks. The downside was, there were too many recreational hikers that made me stop and walked a few times. But it was a good day with a perfect weather that I couldn’t ask more.

This was the second time for me running this race. The race organization, Uber Endurance Sports, always has the best fun races. Their races are always well-marked, they always have an all out aid station provision and very well-organized.
Last year, I broke my 50k PR in this race. Thank you to Keila, whom I was tailing for the first 25k loop. But I just couldn’t keep up with her beast mode pace, and I ended up out of gas by mile 20.
But this year, my plan was using this fun run race as my long run training for upcoming Cayuga 50 miles. I won’t be racing like a crazy monkey, on the other hand, I would try a few new running strategy. After my running drama in Bear Mountain, 2 weeks earlier, I had evaluated my race, overview what went wrong, what did I do wrong, what could I do better, and also to test my brand new recovered left ankle.

Bear Mountain Love and Hate #5 – Hills For BBQ : Sun, 11 May 2014 08:54:37

One week after the Bear Mountain 50 miles, my left ankle was still swollen. But I had work to be done for upcoming Cayuga and Manitou.
So four of us went up to the Bear Mountain ski slope to do some hill repeat. Those crazy girls were doing the 3 miles warming up trail loop and followed by hill repeat run. For me and my whimp ankles, we were just doing 3 miles on the road and hike repeat.
The best part was, we were doing barbecue after the work out, to bring back the calories. Hills and burgers were the right way to close my week.

It was early in the morning when I met Joe Delano in the city to get a ride . The ride  was probably about 2 hours from Manhattan to the race area. And on the way there, we picked up Paul at Hartford, CT. Paul, who’s originally from Ireland but flew in from Mexico where he lived at that moment. Both of them were fast runners, they were in the mission to qualify Boston marathon 2015. We got there pretty early so we had time to set up our drop bag area. The starting line was a couple of hundreds meters from the park main parking lot. Oh the porta-john location was in that main parking lot.
